ArchivalResource

Jane Ferguson papers, 1982-1989.

The collection documents Jane Ferguson's community activism in the 1980s, and includes copies of newspaper articles, correspondence and other material related to growth and development issues within Douglas County in the 1980s. These include the expansion of the Centennial Airport into Douglas County, as well as many new housing developments within the county, including Castle Pines North, Stonegate, Stroh Ranch, Bell Mountain Ranch, Ridgegate (Rampart Range) and WIldwood. The material highlights the heightened tension between Douglas County residents and Douglas County Commissioners. Community groups like the Committee for Douglas County, a group of concerned residents, and other community members, felt that the Commissioners did not represent the interests of Douglas County residents. They asked for the recall of Frank McCurdy, who was elected to the Board of County Commissioners for District 2. McCurdy was not recalled and did not resign.
